The Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships was set up in 1998 by the Cardiff Bay Water Activity Centre (CBWAC), led by Mike Hnatiw, and has been situated at the Channel View Leisure Centre ever since. With a brief hiatus to host the British Indoors in 2013, and a well earned rest in 2014, it is back and bigger than before.
With the introduction of new categories, the 2015 event saw records tumbling and new names being chalked up on the leaders board. 2016 & 2017 carried on the trend, with many new British Records being set. In 2018 we saw a World Record set, which was met with rapturous applause.
2019 is our 20th anniversary - as such we are stepping up our game in a big way.
We pride ourselves on running a great, family-friendly event, with intense competition and a great atmosphere. Spectators are more than welcome and there is no charge to come along and add your voice to the day. The more the merrier.!
We greatly appreciate the support shown to our event, so if you have any ideas or events you want added, drop us a message on WelshIRC@cardiff.gov.uk and we will do our best to accommodate.
